Constructivism

This page plots my research journey into the meaning of the educational theory of Constructivism.
I had never heard on Constructivism. Being a librarian by profession, my first step was to search to an online dictionary. One meaning I found there is “A movement in modern art originating in Moscow in 1920 and characterized by the use of industrial materials such as glass, sheet metal, and plastic to create nonrepresentational, often geometric objects.” http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/c/c0592000.html, accessed 24 August 2007.
It will be interesting to research what the meaning is in an educational context. JW
The next step was to explore the thesaurus in the ERIC database and do a database search using the descriptors “Constructivism (learning)” and “Theories of learning”. This yielded some interesting articles. The final step was do do a search in the library catalogue using the Subject Heading “Constructivism (Education)”. Some material in books resulted and I focused on those that were available online.

Ursula and I were a team of two. We enjoyed working together, we worked collaboratively using our page on the wiki, face to face and via email. Ursula approached me as we were both on the same campus and she was not able to attend any tutes.
I was already familiar with working using wikis in the Library. In my experience in that environment is is very difficult to encourage people to move away from collaborating by sharing documents via email attachments vis a vis collaborating in the wiki environment.
